«Хозяин морей» [1] , он же «Обриада» (англ. Aubrey-Maturin series) — эпический цикл английского писателя Патрика О’Брайана о приключениях двух друзей — британского флотского офицера Джона «Счастливчика Джека» Обри и доктора Стивена Мэтьюрина — в эпоху Наполеоновских войн. Состоит из 20 законченных романов и черновиков еще одного. Вдобавок к этому вышло несколько книг-компаньонов, объясняющих читателям особенности морского дела, медицины и даже кулинарии эпохи.
В англоговорящем мире пользуется огромной популярностью наравне с циклом Форестера «Горацио Хорнблауэр» . Отличается в выгодную сторону большим разнообразием сюжетов и очень живым юмором. С другой стороны, стилизован под прозу начала XIX века, перенасыщен морской терминологией и фактами той эпохи — не всегда легкое чтение.
В 2003 году вышел фильм «Хозяин морей: на краю земли» (англ. Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World) с Расселом Кроу и Полом Беттани. Считается одним из лучших фильмов про парусный флот в принципе, хотя непосвященному зрителю может показаться затянутым и бессюжетным. Фильм получил 2 «Оскара» из 8, на которые номинировался, и в целом крайне рекомендован к просмотру. Желательно в оригинале хотя бы с русскими субтитрами. Рассел Кроу уже лет 15 мечтает сыграть в продолжении фильма, но никто не берется — очень дорого.
Содержание
Кратко о цикле [ править ]
Действие романа начинается в 1800 году, когда молодой лейтенант британского флота Джек Обри получает чин коммандера, первый корабль под командование и одновременно знакомится с безработным врачом и ученым-любителем Стивеном Мэтьюрином, который соглашается поступить на флот хирургом. Несмотря на разницу происхождения, воспитания, характера, мировоззрений, да вообще всего кроме музыкальных вкусов, двое становятся друзьями не разлей вода.
Джек Обри постепенно двигается по карьерной лестнице Королевского флота, зарабатывая славу удачливого, отчаянно храброго и умного капитана. Стивен Мэтьюрин же, помимо занятий медициной и открытий в сфере биологии и ботаники, становится ценным агентом британской разведки. Попутно друзья налаживают личную жизнь, приобретают друзей, наживают врагов, разучивают новые мелодии для скрипки и виолончели и попадают во множество занятных и необычных ситуаций по всему земному шару.
Все это на тщательно прописанном историческом фоне. Обри и Мэтьюрин принимают участие в некоторых второстепенных морских сражениях эпохи (О’Брайан приписал выдуманному капитану Обри достижения минимум двух реальных британских кэптенов той эпохи), они дружат и враждуют со множеством реальных личностей, служат на вполне реальных кораблях.
Заканчивается цикл в 1817 году с присвоением Обри звания контр-адмирала и назначения его командующим южноафриканской станцией флота.
